I heard about Jesus throughout childhood, however I never listened or took any notice of the gospel.

I’d always thought that I wasn’t a bad person, I didn’t realise that I needed to be saved. Now I look back, my view of my own ‘goodness’ had been based on comparing to other people’s behaviour, “I don’t steal, I haven’t murdered anyone” therefore I’m good and that means I’ll go to heaven.

Thankfully God showed me the truth through reading the bible and from hearing about peoples faith at Wem Baptist Church. Prior to being saved by God’s grace, I hadn’t been interested in reading what God said about heaven and who we are..

A few verses in the bible challenged my view and that was Romans 3:10-12, which says:

As it is written: There is no one righteous, not even one; there is no one who understands; there is no one who seeks God.  All have turned away, they have together become worthless; there is no one who does good, not even one.

I came to understand that I was a sinner, that I couldn’t go to heaven by anything I tried to do. I needed rescuing from my sin. The great news is that Jesus died for me and for all who call on his name shall be saved. Jesus is alive interceding for me when I do things wrong, and because of the great sacrifice he made on the cross – I am saved by his love!

If the son sets you free, you will be free indeed. John 8:36
