I was born into a Christian family on the South coast and had the experience of going to church from a very early age. Having moved up to Shropshire, my family started attending Wem Baptist Church before I was 6 years old.
Regular attendance at Sunday School and Holiday Bible Club along with my parents’ encouragement and teaching taught me the basic precepts of the Christian faith - but it had only reached my head, and my regular evening prayers were nothing more than mere formality… something we did before going to bed.
Things changed in 1988 when I attended an evening communion service with Dad. At the end of the service, the Pastor invited Christians and those who wished to become Christians to stand while he read out a card and prayed. Everyone stood. Not really knowing what was happening but not wanting to stand out I got to my feet.
Following the service' the Pastor gave me a colouring booklet that explained the Gospel in a way I could understand. During the weeks that followed' I worked through the booklet until I arrived at the final picture, a picture of heaven complete with a lion and lamb lying down together! As an 'eco warrior' 7 year old, the stark contrast of God’s home and our current world hit home and that evening, I asked the Lord to be myLord. Seven years later I went through the waters of Baptism, openly acknowledging that I was (and still am) a follower of Jesus Christ.
Over the years I have known the Lord’s blessing through both difficult and easier times. I have not always been faithful to him or his word, but he has always been there to pick up the pieces - to forgive me and show me how and where I should live the life that he has given me.
