Lorna Dakin's Testimony

As a young child I was sent along to Sunday school at Wem Baptist Church every week.  When I was about 7 my granddad became very ill – my sisters and I discussed what might happen to him when he died.  I had learnt about heaven and hell in Sunday school and now this was something I had to think about.  I invited the Lord into my life and asked him to forgive me for my wrongdoing (sin).  As I grew older church didn’t seem so appealing and I would offer to make the Sunday dinner to get out of going.  I grew to realise that Jesus was someone that I could rely on – He was always there for me and I could talk to Him at any time of the day or night.

There have been so many times in my life as in anybody’s when things get tough and you wonder why things happen the way they do.  I trained in Home Economics in Manchester and then worked for NACRO (National Association for the Care and Resettlement of Offenders) as a trainer for 5 years – I know the two have no connection and I found the job a real challenge.  I left to have children and look after my grandfather who had Alzheimer’s, this was another challenging time for me. During this time my Mom became ill with cancer and she didn’t know the Lord, my husband Ron also lost his job.  I cried out to the Lord who was already taking care of things.  Because Ron had lost his job he was able to care for our young daughter while I looked after Mom and praise the Lord she invited the Lord into her life just before she died and was so peaceful.

I could go on and on but what I want to say is that having Jesus in your life is like having a best friend with you everywhere you go.  God is faithful and He will not let you down.  I have so much to thank the Lord for, a husband and two great children and so many answers to prayer.
